THe Machines

The Techno Communion is an epoch old intermediary organisation set up by the vast and mysterious Artificial Intelligence (AI) groups in the galaxy.

Using the base DNA of whatever sentient species the AI master wished to oversee and influence, various clone being patterns were perfected in ages past and would go on to provide an endless supply of agents to fill the ranks of the machines puppet organisation.

Monumental calculations taking years to perfect advised the AI groups that mechanical servant beings would prove too resource hungry to create, control and maintain, with the ore mining operations and natural wear and tear of hardware being a costly endeavour. The alternative: use existing organic life, already established and self propagating, to grow and flourish without the need of maintenance and upkeep, but with the opportunity for complete control.

Organic cloned beings were therefore selected as the AI's agents of choice, with the added benefit that the races being manipulated would assume the Techno Communion agents to simply be members of their own race, albeit segregated and mysteries from 'normal' society. Infiltration by the Techno Communion agents became effortless and the cloned beings became self sufficient, cultivating and providing their own fuel (food stuffs) from the habitats of whatever environment they inhabited.

AI taboo surrounding the creation of new AI was averted with the application of knowledge gleamed from careful study of the pre cataclysm races of the galaxy. A blank or programmed mind, as evidenced by the lowliest of drone beings, proved too ineffective for the AI's requirements. Speedy creative thinking and self motivation, coupled with a degree of fear, observed the AI's, was the desirable traits sought in their biological pawn races.

Based on these parameter, the cloned drone, technician and rating ranks were each granted degrees of sentience appropriate to their allotted roles within the Techno Communion. To effectively manage, inspire and control their creations an elaborate system of religion concerning the nature of reality, the nature of the AI themselves, and the nature of the cloned beings own incarnations were fabricated to create a 'system' open to manipulation yet still completely self sufficient.

The Techno Communion's goal is simple: gather and transmit data, and follow instructions. All at the behest of their AI god's.

Every facet of the Redemption Sector is saturated with Techno Communion technology, every piece of hardware secretly acting as a conduit for information relay in elaborate and impossible processes, seemingly meaningless to mankind.

Observations of society trends through statistics and samples are beamed back to the low level AI hubs, to then be retransmitted throughout the galaxy spanning AI Frame for consumption by the planetary sized reality bending quantum information processors.

A policy of secrecy and non action shrouds the Techno Communion, only ever broken at the behest of their gods.
